Situated on contiguous high floors, in an office building just south of Central Park, the offices enjoy commanding views of Central Park, Seventh Avenue, and the Hudson River. The diverse program for this independent film company includes screening rooms, various types of offices from open plan to executive, conference rooms and state of the art teleconferencing spaces. Diverse formal structures are utilized; folded ceiling plates, displaced volumes, and disjunctive operations articulate the “negotiated” plan. The glazed clerestory mediates between ceiling and plan. Aligned and nonaligned systems - volume and plane, material and color - contribute to a visual fabric that offers workers and visitors diverse impressions and “points of view.” The ceiling plates are sloped to maximize the window views at the building perimeter. In this way, a connection is made to the surrounding urban fabric, and the insularity of the private office space is challenged.
