322 Hicks Street, Brooklyn
Smith-Miller + Hawkinson Architects were requested by the project sponsors to join with Larsen Shein Ginsburg Snyder Architects LLP in the interest of developing a proposal for the open two lot site on the west side of Hicks Street, in the block at the edge of the Landmarks District, north of Atlantic and south of State Streets.
Streetscape - Hicks Street between Atlantic and State offers an introduction to the density, homogeneity and diversity of Brooklyn Heights. Both sides of the street have diverse building types, varying ages, and different uses all rendered in brick. The continuous nature of the block - The project’s brick façade stretches from lot line to lot line, its very deflection (inflection) reinforcing the continuous and seamless nature of the typical Brooklyn residential block. The oriel windows, directed toward Atlantic Avenue and the southern exposure, punctuate the façade and recall the iconography of the brownstone bay window.
