SMH+ Featured in Retooling Industrial Sites Exhibit

SMH+'s proposal for the Brooklyn Navy Yard Sands Industrial Building is featured in Infill Philadelphia's Retooling Industrial Sites Exhibit. The exhibit runs from February 5 through March 26, 2010.

SMH+'s proposal makes manifest, by design, the rigorous economies required for the production of material in the 21st Century. Inspired by the Navy Yard’s mission to be a national model for sustainable industrial parks and to establish the Yard as an attractive location for green manufacturers and businesses, our proposal offers a template for the future informed by the site and its history.

Hicks St. Apartment Building in AIA Exhibit

SMH+'s multi-family residential building at 322 Hicks Street in the Brooklyn Heights Historic District is featured in an AIA New York exhibit "Context/Contrast: New Architecture in Historic Districts, 1967-2009." The exhibit will run from October 6, 2009, through January 23, 2010.

Louise Nevelson Plaza redevelopment nears completion


SMH+'s redesign of Louise Nevelson Plaza for the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation is scheduled to be completed by spring 2010, and the SMH+-designed glass benches are expected to be installed by late November of this year. A mock-up of the benches was reviewed this morning (photo).

Van Alen Exhibit of SMH+ LPOE Projects

AESTHETICS OF CROSSING: LAND PORTS OF ENTRY / CITIZENSHIP BY DESIGN will be on view at the Van Alen Institute from Wednesday, July 1 through Friday, July 24, 2009. Pairing projects by Smith-Miller + Hawkinson Architects and Kadambari Baxi and Irene Cheng, the exhibition examines border crossing points and the people who pass through them—provoking viewers to reconsider the physical and aesthetic dimensions of the ways that nation-states regulate and shape individuals’ movements, statuses, and identities.

SMH+ honored with NYC Design Commission Award

SMH+’s EMS Station at 501 Zerega Avenue in the Bronx, a project for the Department of Design and Construction, received a 2008 Award for Excellence in Design from the NYC Design Commission. The awards will be distributed during a reception with the Mayor (tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, July 1st) at the New Museum.

SMH+ House exhibited in GA Tokyo gallery.

SMH+'s House for a Film Producer is featured in the "GA Houses Project 2009" exhibition at the GA Gallery in Tokyo, Japan. The exhibition runs from March 20 to May 31, 2009.






SMH+ recieves national design award. The Land Port of Entry in Massena, New York, received a citation for "On-the-Boards Architecture" at the biannual 2008 GSA Design Awards. The awards will be presented in Washington, D.C., on March 19.
